The First Spark [Tetsuji | Invite Only]

Post by Kyoshi on Thu Nov 09, 2017 11:05 am

Fire.

There was fire everywhere. Its flames leaped higher than buildings and through the village streets. The roar of the conflagrations was so cacophonous that the screams of the innocents burning away in the blaze was merely a din in the background. Shouts of pain, fear, and cries for help echoed around the village; all hope seemed lost. But then, as if the sun slowly began to rise over on of the burning buildings, a light could be seen dawn atop the structure. The bystanders looked on, confused and scared at what they could be seeing. But they had no need to fear this new light. For as they’re eyes adjusted, they were able to see standing there for all to see, a young man. His clothes in tatters but his skin untouched by the blaze surrounding him. Over his shoulder he held a woman whom he had rescued. And as he stood there triumphantly, he called out so loud that his voice boomed over the roar of the fire. “Don’t be afraid! My name is Kyoshi Sarutobi, and I will save you all!!” The young man then jumped from the building picking up citizen after citizen. Men, women, and children were all rescued, one after another in an incredible display of this young man’s strength and speed. Truly, he must be one of the greatest shinobi to ever live. And as he stood before the crowds of people that he had saved, they all called out to him, praising his great deeds and incredible power.

“KYOSHI! KYOSHI! KYOSHI! KYOSHI!....”

“Kyoshi? Koyshi. KYOSHI!”

Kyoshi Sarutobi bolted awake, sitting straight up in his chair as the sensei at the front of the academy classroom. The man did not seem impressed, considering he had to walk all the way to the back of the classroom to wake up Kyoshi in the first place. The young Sarutobi stared up at him for a moment before a sheepish grin spread across his face. “Um…er…yes, Sensei?” The teacher’s furrowed brow was a clear indication of his annoyance, but nevertheless it seemed he would give Kyoshi a chance. Glancing down at the book he held in is hand, the chuunin teacher let out a sigh. “I asked you, in what year was Kirigakure no Sato formed in the Land of Water in relation to the Warring Sates Period? It’s a fairly simple question, for anyone who did their homework.” The emphasis on the latter half of the sentence was not lost on Kyoshi, who simply chuckled and shrugged. “Um…four?” He replied with little to no confidence whatsoever. By his teacher’s unimpressed frown, as well as the laughing of most of the class, Kyoshi knew that he was wrong. He opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by the teacher. “I don’t want to hear it Kyoshi. I understand that you have some natural talent for practical things, but that does not excuse you form learning this stuff. It is more important than you know.”

Shaking his head, the teacher walked back to the front of the classroom. Despite the fact that Kyoshi thought learning history was useless, he was still embarrassed by the turn of events. He was a Sarutobi, and there was a certain level of…behavior that was expected of him thanks to that. His name was a famous one, and he had to make sure he lived up to it. But once again he had allowed his fantasies to distract him from his studies, and in turn had probably made a few people lose respect for him. He had to correct that. For the rest of the class, Kyoshi remained silent but attentive, doing his best to follow along with the history lessons being taught. It was boring, that much was certain, and just as Kyoshi began to drift off once again, the teacher said something that made him perk up.

“All right class, time to move out into the training yard. It’s time for sparring.” Kyoshi’s eyes lit up as he jumped form his chair. “Finally!” Before too long, most of the class had begun to make their way to the door and through the hallways into the courtyard. It was a beautiful day outside, and the warmth of the sunshine only heightened Kyoshi’s excitement. They very rarely got to spar in their class, since the teachers were wary of people being hurt. But he had come very far since the last time sparring was arranged in the class, and he was ready to be put up against any one of the classmates. As they finally arrived at the training field, the class arranged themselves into a half circle to await the names that would be called. Kyoshi stood quietly, his fingers crossed and a huge smile plastered onto his face. He was ready to fight!

“Now let’s see…” the instructor said with a smile. “Who will our first match up be…”

Classroom disturbances were always as they were, disturbances. Tetsuji could never claim innocence from them but his were... few and far between for the most part and even beyond that he didn't take much time to really even recognize them. Still, Tetsuji watched as his sensei walked up the rows of desks and approached a not-so-quietly sleeping boy and began to question him. Tetsuji had been scribbling away notes but listened carefully as the question was asked, the answer immediately popping into his head as he listened to him bumble about the incorrect answer.

That was the end of it though, as some students would linger about or even laugh at his answer, Tetsuji's eyes calmly followed the sensei back to the front of the room as he continued about his lecture and carried on with the lesson, a short and brief history of the founding of the major villages and the details about them. It wasn't excessively long as with a few details of the Village Hidden in the Mist and they only had the Stone and the Cloud to cover after that and even then, there really wasn't much to know about their villages at the time.

With the lesson over, the sensei turned back to the class and spoke up, "All right class, time to move out into the training yard. It’s time for sparring." the words rang out and a few bright faces popped up and others fell sullen as they realized what that actually meant. Tetsuji held quietly though, closed his book and slid his items in his bag to leave at his desk in the room and calmly rose from his chair as the rest of the class began to shuffle outward. Tetsuji followed outward with his standard level of enthusiasm being calm and collected but strangely enough he felt a small touch of excitement as it wasn't a common thing to spar any of the other students directly and he held a winning record against the other academy students.

If anything, it was a chance to let loose and show the skills he'd learned and bring a bit of pride to his clan, to match up himself against the others of his own classroom. The trip down the hallways kept uneventful as Tetsuji held his hands to his pocket and shuffled his feet outwards towards the back of the class. His attention was so passive in the moment, mentally prepping himself to fight and trying to loosen himself up as well as bring his mood from calm to focused.

Arriving at the training ground, Tetsuji's apathy had led him to one thing, and that was incidentally pushing towards the front of the group before looking up at the scene before him. Their sensei was smiling and looking around the group of students for the first match up of the day, Tetsuji's eyes falling right on him and would make eye contact if he turned to the little Uchiha. A small psychology that might end up betraying him and making him the first one to go but that didn't matter, he felt mentally loose enough and didn't really fear taking anyone in their class on. Aside from that, none of them really had any skills that were worth worrying over in any form, so Tetsuji would stand for a moment before removing his glare, waiting for the news on whether he would be subject to spar first or not.

The words were still leaving the instructor’s lips, but Kyoshi could hardly contain his excitement. Sparring was something that he felt pretty adept at, and getting to practice against people that would go all out rather than his clan mates who would go easy on him because of his age was something he did not want to miss out on. Not only that, but Kyoshi wanted a worthy opponent that would push him. He knew of a couple of kids in the class that would put up a good fight, but the odds were against him getting to fight one of those few. Even so, when he saw the teacher locking eyes with another one of his classmates, Tetsuji Uchiha, Kyoshi knew that the first fight would probably involve the raven haired boy. He was certainly one of the worthy opponents that Kyoshi had in mind, considering his name alone was a famous one.

The Uchiha were one of the two founding cans of the village that Kyoshi loved so much. But not only were they old, they were powerful. The bloodline trait of their clan was renown around the world, and though Kyoshi had never seen the legendary dojutsu, the Sharingan, in action, he had heard tales of it from his father and other clan members who had fought against it in the time of the Warring States Period. The young Sarutobi had no idea whether or not Tetsuji had access to such a powerful technique, but he certainly wanted to find out. Unsurprisingly, the instructor first pointed to Tetsuji can called out to him, motioning for him to move to one side of the sparring area. Not long after, the instructor looked down at his list and furrowed brow for a moment before sighing and calling the net name. “And Kyoshi Sarutobi, you’re up too.”

“Alright!” Kyoshi pumped a fist in the air with excitement as he ran over to his side of the training area. As soon as he stopped, he pointed his finger toward Tetsuji and smiled. “Alright Tetsuji! Don’t you dare hold back because I won’t be; not one bit!!” The sensei quickly cleared his throat before Kyoshi could keep talking. “Now as you both should know, Shinobi Sparring is an honorable tradition that as been around for as long as shinobi have existed. Now that the clans work together in the Hidden Villages, the importance of those traditions is amplified even more. So Kyoshi, instead of pointing at Tetsuji, why don’t you both make this one handed seal, signifying your intention to fight.” The teacher raised his right hand and formed what seemed to be a half of a tiger seal. “This is the sign of confrontation. Once the battle is cover, you two will link your fingers in the sign of unity. This is to show that although you come from different paths and clans, you are both shinobi that will fight together for the village.”

Kyoshi nodded slowly as he listened. Though it was somewhat of a history lesson, the young Sarutobi could understand the importance of it. The Will of Fire dictated that all members of the village are to be cherished and honoured, no matter what clan they come from or what they do in their day to day lives. That bond that was formed between all of the villagers is what made Konoha so strong, and so if these simple hand signs were a reflection of that, Kyoshi would follow the instructions to the letter. And so Kyoshi, still smiling, raised his right hand into the Sign of Confrontation and waited for Tetsuji to do the same. Their fight would begin soon, and Kyoshi would not lose.

A small sigh carried in Tetsuji's throat as he was called up first to begin their spar. It wasn't anything to do with him being ready to compete or anything of that sort, it was just merely a reaction that struck him at the time. He felt ready but none of his sort-of ritualistic steps he could follow through before his fight, like his father and grandfather had taught, instilled, into him as soon as they could. As he stepped forward and moved to one side of his sensei to take his place away from the group he began to think through it on his own.

Two starts to any fight. Attack, or be attacked. You should attack first, set the tone of the fight and the pace, catch them off guard early, don't leave any openings. Don't waste any movement, don't think too hard, don't... Tetsuji's cadence quickly rattled off in his mind and continued as he waited calmly and their sensei called up his opponent, Kyoshi Sarutobi. Another student of his class and one who far preferred these practical types of training and the same student who was sleeping away to interrupt class as well. None of that really mattered to Tetsuji who stood at the ready as more was crossing into his mind, running around thoroughly and sending him for a loop of indirect direction for his spar.

His musing was interrupted though as Kyoshi took his spot across and spoke up, Tetsuji's eyes sort of lighting up as his attention would turn towards the boy making known he wouldn't hold back. It was something to speak of for Tetsuji, as he wondered briefly about what he meant by that, what sort of trick he might have up his sleeve for their spar? He'd have to be more cautious, his aggression would have to be controlled and calculated like it always was but even more so now. Don't waste any movements. The rule he was being drilled to abide by most recently stuck out now that his opponent made the indirect threat. He'd have to be at his best and though he wouldn't hold back before, he'd prepare himself to go all out this time purely for the sake of not getting caught off guard.

Their sensei continued to rattle off notes about the ceremony of their spar, instructing them to form a Sign of Confrontation and one after their fight as well. None of that bothered or concerned Tetsuji except the words he chose, "even though you're from different clans"... The words sat in his mind for a moment as he wondered if he meant anything by it. If they were truly from the same village then shouldn't they ignore those bindings? Or maybe he understood like the Uchiha adults Tetsuji had been learning from, that the village didn't actually unify them and only led to the mirage of such.

It didn't matter right now, Tetsuji had another matter to deal with. Tetsuji would nod to Kyoshi as a small indication and bring his right hand up to form the same sign as he did, waiting anxiously for their fight to begin. The moment they would receive the signal to begin would be it, Tetsuji would blast off the starting point and let his arms fall to his sides as he would carry himself meticulously in a rush at Kyoshi.

His dash forwards wouldn't have to cover a great distance but once he found himself within the appropriate range to move he would plant his left foot into the ground from the ball of his foot and rotate backwards slightly while powering the muscles in his thigh and back and turning his head around to sight Kyoshi again. With the motion, he would let his right leg move into the air and in that full body rotation would spin backwards to deliver a straight legged kick towards Kyoshi's head to start off their fight. At the same time, Tetsuji's body would rotate and his right arm would stay at his side to block a potential counter to his side while his left arm stayed free and ready to move. Not a single movement wasted. The mantra in his head as he started to plan out his steps and the various courses of action he could take.

Tetsuji knew he was weak so he would have to strike with the hardest points of his body, knowing that his kick would do two things if he could send it off, even if Kyoshi dodged it or blocked it. First, it would let him make the first move and take control of the aggression, at the very least he would be on the defensive immediately to respond to it and second, it would be a very interesting way to set the tone and start their fight off going straight to a spinning back round kick.

To say that his would-be opponent seemed unenthusiastic at first would be an understatement. The sigh that he had let out when his name was first called was a little bit discouraging to the young Sarutobi. Though Tetsuji seemed to have paid attention to Kyoshi’s words, he did not respond in any way that would lead the academy student to believe that the young Uchiha was any more interested in their bout. Even so, Kyoshi did not intend to let his guard down in front of everyone. If Tetsuji managed to get the better of him with all of these people watching, Kyoshi wanted to make sure he was at least trying his best in order to do so. The build up for the fight continued, and Kyoshi was was beginning to get restless when finally, as if he had known that the Sarutobi had been waiting for it, Tetsuji Uchiha nodded to Kyoshi and also raised his right hand to make the proper hand seal.

Within moments of that, the sensei gave the signal that the fight could begin, and in that moment Kyoshi realized that it was a good thing that he did not let his guard down. Tetsuji blasted toward him, the Uchiha’s arms dropping to his sides as the distance between the pair disappeared with each step that Tetsuji took. Deciding that a defensive response would be best, Kyoshi shifted his right foot back and bent at his knees, raising himself up onto the balls of his feet so that the oncoming attack would not force him backwards, but he would be able to move quickly if he needed to. His left arm was raised over his left leg, his palm open and facing his own body. Similarly, his right hand was open as well, though it sat in front of his stomach, with his body turned so as to make himself a smaller target. He had learned a great deal from his family and friends in his clan, and he was not going to let that knowledge go to waste.

Just as Kyoshi got into position, Tetsuji had reached him and was already planting his left foot. He followed up by spinning into a back round kick that was aimed straight for Kyoshi’s head. It was an aggressive opening to be sure, but Kyoshi was ready for it. Raising his right hand from its resting position, Kyoshi would block the oncoming strike in the nick of time, stopping it in its path and allowing for the Sarutobi to go on a momentary offensive. Kyoshi knew that every hit would count in the fight, so he did not think twice about his attack. While still blocking the kick, Kyosho would shift this weight forward on the balls of his feet and attempt to strike out with his left hand, bringing it across his body and striking at the side of Tetsuji’s right knee. It probably would not do much damage, but Kyoshi’s hope was to force the by off balance so that he could follow up. Whether or not he was able to accomplish his goal, Kyoshi would then shift his weight onto his front leg, bringing up his right leg into a kick at Tetsuji’s abdomen, the strike accompanied by a grunt of satisfaction from the young Sarutobi.

Kyoshi knew he was not the strongest person in his class, but he also knew that if he could wear out Tetsuji, then he would be able to pull through and win the fight. It might take some time, but Kyoshi was determined to beat the young Uchiha. He would not go down without a fight.

Re: The First Spark [Tetsuji | Invite Only]

Tetsuji's foot flew into the air on target but was met by equally quick movement from his opponent who threw his arm up to absorb the shock of the kick and block his momentum. Tetsuji's foot and leg stayed loose as his spin had ground to a halt. Their battle had begun and started out with a bit of intensity, the rest of the class who was marked in the area around them had faded out and the only focus was on his opponent. Even his own sensei was no longer a factor, even if he could step in at any moment, there was one goal for Tetsuji and that was his next step. The next step and the ones that came after that.

His leg had stopped from the block of the blow and a bit of space would separate from his own leg and Kyoshi's arm as the instant after the attack they would each be planning their own move and subsequent moves from there. It was in that briefest of moments that Tetsuji knew he had to act and had only one goal in mind, to prevent his leg from getting caught, grabbed, or even used by his enemy before he could regain his balance and shift back to the attack. It would be paramount in the milliseconds after his kick landed that he dug into the balls of his left foot still on the ground and quickly reverse his momentum and bring his leg to the ground. In the same spin move done in reverse, Tetsuji would bring his leg around himself and twist his torso back the other way with an arm down to protect his stomach and chest as his head turned and re-targeted his opponent who was mid-punch and having aimed for Tetsuji's open leg.

It wouldn't be just a moment after that his leg was down to the ground and his stance was brought to par, knees bent and sat on the balls of his feet again. His left hand was across his body and his right hand was in a fist at his side. Instantaneously, Tetsuji knew that he was too close, he needed to create space and jump back a bit but he didn't have the speed advantage for it in any form. It was as Kyoshi had transitioned back and turned his body back to Tetsuji to strike again that he knew he was caught out.

It was a stretch but Tetsuji knew that he had to go strike for strike, so he did just that, letting his left arm move up to protect his chest and head and sacrificing his body to Kyoshi's blow as he offered a counter in the moment. Bringing his right arm up, he would let the kick supplant into his abdomen and most likely knock the breath out of him for a second and leave a heavy mark of fatigue against him as he would find it hard to control his composure, if Kyoshi kept his course of action to deliver the kick anyways.

In response with his right hand, Tetsuji would bring up the fist from his side as quickly as he could with as much power as he could muster in the short gap and with a heavy lean inwards, he would try to close the gap from his punch and aim right for Kyoshi's cheek to go blow for blow between the two of them. With this move, it would suggest that their fight was one less of finesse and grace between each strike and subsequent counter to one that would be decided by who could deliver and take more damage from whom. Though, with how weak Tetsuji was, he was going to have to find a more suitable course of action, knowing he can't continuously take hits to his body over and over again.
