The Real Journey Begins [Solo]

Post by Kyoshi on Sun Feb 04, 2018 3:32 pm

It was happening. It was actually happening. Sure, he had known for years that it was supposed to happen. But it had always seemed like sucha far off goal. One that he would always be striving after for the rest of his time. He always felt like once he had achieved what was happening right now, he would have reached his peak, and his work would be done. Despite all of his bravado and plans for the future, the young Sarutobi had never really thought about how hard he had worked, and how far he had come to be able to reach the point that he was at now. As he stared down at the paper in his hands, reading it over again and again, trying to figure out if there was some sort of contingency that he was missing, he was met with only the clear and honest truth. Kyoshi Sarutobi’s life was about to change; because Kyoshi Sarutobi, was now a full fledged ninja.

He had been working toward that goal for so long that it did not seem real to have the letter from the Administration building in his hands. It detailed all of the areas that he excelled in and where he could still use improvement. His chakra control was impressive for his age, according to the message, but he was not nearly as perceptive as he needed to be if he ever wished to advance further. The letter also said that he continued to improve at hand to hand combat every day, and that he showed a great deal of determination toward bettering himself. Underneath that summary was the signature of the chuunin who had been teaching his class. After that, there was the official notice that still caused his head to swim when he read over it, despite having seen the information over and over again already. It was a message from the Hokage, Hashirama Senju. It stated that Kyoshi had displayed the necessary skills required of genin of Konohagakure no Sato, and that from that day forward, he would no longer be a ninja in training, but rather a full member of the ninja forces of the village Hidden in the Leaves as a genin. Now, Kyoshi was no fool. He knew that it was probably a cookie cutter message sent to all of the students who passed the exams and were chosen to graduate, but even so, the message brought a smile to his face once again.

Kyoshi had heard so much about the Hokage ever since he was a boy. Being a member of the Sarutobi clan, he had always heard tales of the great battles that his clan and the Senju clan had fought alongside one another during the Warring States Period. The tales of Hashirama’s prowess were legendary, and to hear the stories of how he took down scores of Uchiha shinobi will his incredibly powerful Wood Release was amazing in and of itself. But on top of that, the Senju, and Hashirama himself were responsible for the creation of his home. He was the one that had allowed the Sarutobi philosophy if the Will of Fire to enter into his own heart and create a place of peace and prosperity, rather than one of war and death. So even if he had simply signed the letter that Kyoshi now held in a fleeting moment as it passed over his desk along with hundreds of other similar notices, Kyoshi did not care. It was a piece of paper that he would keep forever.

Kyoshi then set the letter down and pulled up the next thing that he had been given upon his graduation. The forehead protector that he held in his hand was brand new, unscarred by any battle and shimmering in the sunlight. The symbol of the VIllage Hidden in the Leaves was displayed proudly in the center of the metal piece that was attached to the black sash. Kyoshi’s hands were almost shaking as he brought the piece of equipment up to his head, reaching the sash around to the back of his head and tying it off. It was uncomfortable, and he had seen other people wear their “forehead protectors” in different lace, so he figured he would probably move his eventually. But for now, he was just proud to have it on his head. He was a genin now. He really was a genin.

He turned around and made his way out of the Administration building, out onto the streets of Konohagakure no Sato. The sun was shining high in the sky and Kyoshi felt like he could do anything in the world if he needed to. But the real question that baffled him was a simple one: what next? As he walked through the streets of his village, he began to realize just how much his world had opened up. Life in the Academy had ben so closed and structured, that he really had no idea what life as a true ninja would be like. He knew there were missions that he had to do, and he knew that he would be protecting the village and learning more jutsu, but other than that, he had no idea what he would have to do to go even further, like becoming a chuunin or jounin even! He had challenged Akame to a race to see who would be Hokage, but he never really expected it to happen because somewhere deep inside, he believed hat is whole like would take place in the academy. But suddenly, all that had changed, and the world had really opened up to him.

All this and more was running through the young Sarutobi’s head when he rounded the corner onto the street where most of the Sarutobi clan resided. They did not have a proper clan compound, the Uchiha or the Senju, but evem so, everyone in the Village knew that this was where the Sarutobi had put down their roots. As His house came into view, he broke into a run. He was so excited to show he father!

Re: The Real Journey Begins [Solo]

Kyoshi had only been running for a few moments when he caught a glimpse of movement from out of the corner of his eye. With that sight, it was like the world slowed down for a moment. It was a familiar sight; it was something he had been trained to observe on multiple occasions in his classes at the Ninja Academy. But the context of the situation was what threw him off. He was on his street, heading down the path to his house where he would seem be able to show off his brand new rank to his father and make him proud! But this sight that he saw caused him to react with newly tuned instincts. Ones that he had barely flexed, but he had no choice but to do right now. The movement that he saw from the shadows was the figure of a kunai being thrown at him.

Kyoshi knew that he was not going to outrun the weapon, so instead he stopped dead in his tracks, but allowed his body to continue forward. He fell straight down, but landed on his hands. As soon as his fingers touched the dirt on the ground below him, Kyoshi heard the whiz of the ninja tool flying over his head. Wasting no time, the young genin sprung back up into a standing position and dropped into a fighting stance, ready to stand his ground against this unknown assailant. But much to his relief and frustration, it was not an enemy that emerged form the shadows, but something far worse. It was a family member. Kyoshi’s brow furrowed as one of his older cousins, Muto, stepped into the light of the day, a big grin on his face and another kunai in his left hand. The young man had long, stringy black hair that fell down past his shoulders, and he wore a simple brown tunic that looked to be dirty with sweat from a day of training. The last aspect of his outfit that stood out was the forehead protector that he wore, signifying his position as a genin as well. He had been promoted a full year earlier than Kyoshi, because he was older than the young Sarutobi. But Kyoshi still did not think that Muto was suited to be a ninja at all. His inability to take a shower seemed like proof enough of that.

“Hey Kyoshi, what are you doing with a ninja forehead protector? Those are for ACTUAL shinobi, you know? Not just dumb kids in the Academy.” The sarcasm dripping from his voice what disgusting, and it made Kyoshi almost visibly cringe. Furrowing his brow, he got out of his stance and stepped up to the older cousin. “As a matter of fact, Muto, I AM a shinobi now. I just graduated form the academy. We’re the same rank now.” Instead of being impressed like the young Srutobi had expected and somewhat hoped for, Muto simply let out a single, cackle-like laugh that sent spittle dangerously close to Kyoshi. “You’re telling me they let a shrimp like you graduate? You’re so young you’re barely even a Sarutobi!” Kyoshi’s hands balled up into fists as his cousin ridiculed him, his anger beginning to well up inside of him little by little. He was a genin now. He should show him who is boss. “Where the heck do you get off throwing kunai at me anyway, Muto?!?” The boy was going to lash out if he didn’t get rid of his anger some other way, so a shouting match seemed appropriate for now. Muto simply continued to laugh before throwing the other kunai to the ground between the pair. “If you thought I would be stupid enough to actually try to hurt you, then you’re way to stupid to be a full fledged ninja, kid. They’re training weapons. Chill out.” The newly promoted genin looked down at the training tool on the ground in front of him, then back to the one that had flown past him but moments earlier. The jerk wasn’t lying. They were just dull, practice tools with no killing potential.

That fact almost made Kyoshi even angrier. Did Muto not think he was worth a real weapon? He gritted his teeth and stood there for a moment, unsure of how to react. He knew he could just walk away and it would all be over, but Muto had stung his pride. He had said that Kyoshi was barely even a Sarutobi. He could not let that stand. He looked up from the ground that he had been staring at, locking eyes with his cousin before rearing back with his right fist and letting it fly towards Muto’s face.

It was a big mistake.

He saw Muto shift to the left way faster than he had expected before latching on to Kyoshi’s write. The follow up was a tug on his arm that was stronger than anything he had experienced, twisting his arm behind his back and locking it in place. Kyoshi then felt a strike to the back of his knees, sending him down to the ground where Muto then slammed the newly promoted genin’s face into the dirt. It hurt, but more than the physical pain was the bruise to his ego. Muto then leaned down over Kyoshi’s head and whispered into his ear. “Two things. One, if you ever throw a punch at me again, I’ll break your arm. Two, if you ever try to insinuate that we are anywhere near the same level, then I will beat you so bad that you will never recover, and you will never be a ninja.” Not waiting for any kind of response, Muto stood up and let go of Kyoshi before simply turning and walking away. He didn’t need to say anything else. His point had been made.

Kyoshi stood up from the ground and began to walk back toward his house. He rotated his arm a couple of times, trying to get rid of the pain but not succeeding. His day had taken a turn for the worse, and suddenly he was not so excited to tell his dad about his position. If Muto could beat him up, what good was he as a ninja?

Re: The Real Journey Begins [Solo]

Post by Kyoshi on Tue Feb 06, 2018 2:28 pm

He was dragging his feet as he finally arrived outside of his house. It was a fairly small, white, two story building with some chips in the paint and red shingles on the roof. Quaint was a good word to describe it. He had lived in that house ever since the village was formed, which meant it was basically the only home he could really remember. He loved it, even though he had seen his friends’ houses that were bigger and more impressive than his own humble abode. His own step-mother, who was like a mother to him in every way shape and form, had moved out of her huge home in the Hyuga clan compound to come live with Kyoshi’s father when they had gotten married. She seemed to love the small house just as much as they did. It was a humble abode, but Kyoshi did not mind. And right now, that humility that was intrinsic within the home was echoed within himself. His pride was deflated, and his head was hanging as he slowly made his way up the from walkway. When he arrived t the red door, he simply pushed it open, not announcing his presence like he usually would. Instead, he slipped off his sandals and made his way into the kitchen, hoping to find someone there.

The young Sarutobi was greeted to the sight of his mother standing voer the kitchen sink, washing dishes. The bubbles rising form the sink were plentiful, and it looked like she may have added just a little bit too much soap when she started washing. Even so, she continued with the job, humming along as Kyoshi stepped into the room and sat down at the table with a sigh. Kyoshi’s mother turned around as she heard him plant himself in the chair, her long black hair swirling around her shoulders as she spun around to greet her son. “Kyoshi! You’re home! How was your trip to the-“ She stopped short, and Kyoshi could not help but look up to see what had caused her to stop. The woman’s pupil-less eyes of the Hyuga clan were locked onto Kyoshi, and though at first he believed that she was starting at the bruise that he was sure was forming on his face, it took him only a moment to realize the true object of her attention. She was staring at his forehead protector.

“Is that….does that mean what I think it does?” There was a barely contained excitement in her voice as she stepped forward, a beautiful smile spreading onto her pale face. Despite his own bad mood, the young Sarutobi was encouraged by his mother’s reaction and allowed a small smile to appear on his own face as well. “Yea mom. It’s my official Konohagakure no Sato forehead protector. I got promoted to genin! I’m a real ninja now!” By the time he had finished his thought, his forced smile had turned into a true one. The small tears of joy welling up in his mother’s eyes had made him forget all about the horrible encounter of mere minutes earlier. Now, all he was focused on was how impressed his mother seemed to be. She sat down at the table next to him, taking his hands into her own as happy tears began to trickle slowly down her face. “Oh Kyoshi, I’m so proud of you! You really did it!” Her voice was getting louder now, and because of that Kyoshi was not surprised when he heard another voice coming from further within his house. “What did he do this time? Did he get into another fight with that Aka kid?”

It was his father’s voice, and following behind that exclamation, the man himself soon emerged form the back of the house, stepping into the kitchen looking tired, but still content. His smile was a soft one that, when combined with the look in his eyes, betrayed his fatigue to his son. Kyoshi simply turned to face him before lifting his right hand and pointing with his thumb to the piece of equipment on his head. He did not say a word, and he did not have to. There was about a four second window of silence where Kyoshi’s father stared at him, and slowly allowed his smile to grow and grow and grow until it was a big toothy grin that was spread across his whole face. “My boy! You’ve one it! You’re a genin now!” Letting out a joyous laugh, the newly appointed genin’s father jumped up onto the table, his fists raised into the air and any sign of his fatigue completely gone form his expression. “That’s right dad!” Kyoshi yelled back, standing up and high fiving the man who had become a child in the moment of pure, unmitigated pride in his son. “I did it! I passed the exams, and now I’m going to be a great ninja, just like you!”

Hearing the words coming form his own mouth were strange. He had always thought them, but he never believed he would actually get the opportunity to say them. His father had always been such a role model to him; every minute that he got to spent with the man was a blessing in his eyes. And to see him as proud as he was now because of the work that Kyoshi had done made him happier than he ever would have expected. He was going to do everything in his power to continue to grow so that he could one day be just as strong, or maybe even stronger than the man he had looked up to for his whole life. After a moment more of standing on the table, Kyoshi’s father got down let out a happy sigh. “Well son, now tat you’re a genin I have something I have to show you.” The sudden change of tone in his father’s voice caused Kyoshi to calm down immediately. He looked up to the man’s eyes to hear what more he had to say, but there wasn’t much. Only three words that sounded more ominous than anything.

“Follow me, Kyoshi…”

Re: The Real Journey Begins [Solo]

His father slowly stepped out of the room, and Kyoshi was simply taken aback. He knew he needed to follow, but the way that his father had calmed down so quickly was causing him to hesitate. What was so important that he had to wait until he became a full fledged ninja before it could be shown to him. Nervously, he glanced toward his mother, who simply smiled and gestured for him to follow his father. Kyoshi nodded slowly before stepping out of the kitchen and into the hallway where his father had disappeared in to. At the far end of the hallway was the door to the basement which was filled up with some training weights that Kyoshi used occasionally, but it was mostly a storage space. So the young Sarutobi was surprised when his father turned and opened the door and ushered Kyoshi in, the dim light of the basement enveloping the two men as they stepped down the stairs.

He hadn’t been down there in some time, so it took a minute for him remember where everything was. He had been using the gym at the Academy so much lately that his small rack of training weights seemed pretty pathetic by comparison. Still, they held a certain sentimental value. He could remember the hours on end he would spend down here before he was old enough for the Academy, pumping iron in hopes of impressing his father and some of the other clan members. He was never a strong guy, and that still hadn’t changed to this day. But even so, he kept on working at it. Someday he would be as strong as his dad; at least that was the plan. What he hadn’t noticed was that his father was simply smiling and watching Kyoshi as he looked over the weights, which confused the newly promoted genin even more. “So dad, what are we doing down here?” He asked hesitantly, not sure if he was supposed to wait for his father to continue or not. Thankfully, his father simply turned around and headed toward one of the storage trunks that Kyoshi did not recognize. Stepping up behind him, Kyoshi peeked over his father’s shoulder as the older Sarutobi rummaged through the trunk. Kyoshi’s eyes widened as he looked at the contents of the storage box. Inside, he saw ruined remains or armor, weapons, and tools that he was sure were his father’s. There was no other explanation for the quantity of the stuff in the trunk, and the condition it was in. It was old stuff, but even now Kyoshi would tell that it was good stuff back in the day.

But when his father finally stopped, Kyoshi was not sure what he was looking at. His father reached to the bottom of the box and pulled out a smaller box, this one less for storage, and more like what you would find if you bought some kind of armor of clothing. It looked a lot newer than everything else in the trunk, further confusing Kyoshi. He raised an eyebrow and look at his father, who simply smiled as he lifted the lid off of the box. What he removed was not at all what Kyoshi expected; a black folded garment of some kind that was not armored at all. “Take it, Kyoshi,” was all his dad said, so Kyoshi obliged. Lifted it out of the box, Kyoshi let it unfold in his hands. It was a black jacket make of soft, flexible material like his current red jacket. The Sarutobi clan symbol sat proudly emblazoned on the back of it, and the white fur on the collar of the jacket stood out. Turning it around, Kyoshi smiled. It looked awesome.

“That jacket, believe it or not, was mine when I was younger. Back before this village existed and the ninja clans warred for no reason other than monetary gain for warlords around the world, our clan fought proudly. I was no exception to that rule. I fought alongside my father and many of my cousins and other clan members. I also fought with Senju and Nara and all sorts of other clans. But That is besides the point. What I want to say is, that jacket was once mine, and I wore it into battle on more than one occasion. I had your mother restore it for me a couple of months ago, because I knew this day would come. And I wanted you to have it Kyoshi. I want you to carry it into battle and proudly show your love for your clan. I know that even at your young age, your heart already burns with the Will of Fire. I fully believe what you said upstairs. I believe that you will become as strong, if not stronger than me someday. But one thing that I ask you is that you take this gift, this simple coat, and wear it proudly. Will you do this for your old man, Kyoshi?”

Kyoshi’s mouth was agape. It was only slight, but to be holding the very coat that his father had worn into battle time and time again was almost surreal. He ran his fingers through the white fir on the collar, feeling the soft fur and smiling knowing exactly what he would say. This coat was more than just a piece of clothing; it was a legacy that his father was passing on. It was restored to its former glory just so that he could carry that legacy on to the next generation of Sarutobi. And so he set that black jacket down and slipped of his current red one, dropping it on the floor and looking up at his dad. Slowly, he slipped the jacket on one arm at a time. It fit him perfectly; his mom had done a great job. With a smile, he straightened it once it was on and threw a thumbs up out to his dad. “Of course dad! It’s an honor to carry this legacy on and make you proud. I won’t let you down pop! I promise!”

That was one of the few times in his life that he saw his father begin to tear up…

Re: The Real Journey Begins [Solo]

Post by Kyoshi on Thu Feb 08, 2018 9:34 am

The two Sarutobi men emerged from the basement only a short time after they had gone down, but one of them came up looking very different. Kyoshi was now holding the jacket he used to wear, the crimson piece of clothing was probably not going to be used again for some time. Now Kyoshi had a new symbol to wear. The black coat looked good on him, and it fit so well it might as well have been his to start with. As he made his way down the hallway with his father close behind, he straightened the coat out again before rounding the corner into the kitchen where is mother was setting the table for lunch. “Hey mom, look at this!” He called out to her excitedly, and when she turned around, she already had a smile on her face. After all, she knew exactly what Kyoshi’s father had been planning that whole time. She was the one who refitted it for her son. “Looks like it fits perfectly,” she said with a smile, placing bowls around the table for the soup noodles she was making. “It does! Thanks mom.” He paused, looking up at the forehead protector that was in its rightful position. It still felt uncomfortable, but he had an idea. “There’s just one thing I need to do to make this outfit complete!” Undoing the forehead protector from his head, he brought it down to his waist and tied it around like a belt, with the symbol of the Village Hidden in the Leaves facing straight ahead for all to see. “Perfect!”

With that, he decided to help his mom set the table for lunch, placing out the chop sticks and helping to organize everything that they needed. It was not too long after that the three of them were sitting around the table and enjoying their soup noodles. The warm broth and the flavorful noodles were the perfect accent on the already amazing day that Kyoshi was having. But as he ran through the days events, he remembered one part of his day that was…less than ideal. The run in with Muto had really put a damper on his mood only a while ago. The frustration of the memory must have shown on his face, because his mother spoke up as he was thinking about it. “Is something wrong honey?” She had a concerned look on her face that was so common for her. Her husband and son were both ninja now, so Kyoshi only expected to see it more often. He did not want to bother her with his little problems though, so he made up a quick lie that was actually more of a half truth. “Not really. I was just thinking how some of my other classmates are already excelling in one type of jutsu or another. I heard that one of the Uchiha boys can already use the Sharingan! And he can even use Genjutsu! I was thinking that I really need to start working on jutsu of my own so that I can be just as useful when it comes to missions.”

Kyoshi’s dad nodded with a full mouth. “Mmmm, that’s a good plan. Those Uchiha are especially strong, and even though most of the clan had joined up with Konohagakure no Sato, there are a number of Uchiha that are scattered to the nations, making lives of their own. Training with that boy might end up being very beneficial or you! But yes, making your own jutsu and preparing for the fights ahead is very important. You’re actually a rare exception among the Sarutobi, having two elemental affinities rather than the usual fire affinity that almost all of us have. Very few of us are as attuned to the earth element as you are, so try to use that to your advantage. Plus, since I have showed you the basics of fuinjutsu already, I would see if you can hone those sealing abilities. Sealing can change the flow of battle pretty quickly, though setting traps or otherwise. But in any case, I leave it to you! Just be sure to keep me in the loop so that we can practice together!”

He smiled and gave Kyoshi a thumbs up before going back to his noodles. Kyoshi had been listening attentively and made sure to take note of everything his father had said. Fuinjutsu was definitely something he wanted to work on, especially since he had learned about the theory of curse seals from his Academy classes. The idea of being able to inhibit someone’s actions though sealing portions of their chakra was exciting to him, and he figured that if he could combine that with powerful ninjutsu, he could be a force to be reckoned with. With all this going through his head, he realized that he did not want to waste any more time! He needed to get to training, especially if he wanted to beat up Muto someday soon. Lifting the bowl to his lips, Kyoshi slurped up the last bit of his broth and stood up. “Well, I think I’m gonna go find some of my friends to see if they graduated too, and then I’m going to start trying to formulate some of these new jutsu! I gotta start somewhere!”

His parents gave him the ok and before too long, Kyoshi had his sandals back on and was headed out the door. He stopped for a moment at the edge of his property to see if there was any sign of Muto around; he really did not want to deal with him twice in one day. Once it appeared as though the coast was clear, Kyoshi made his way out of the neighborhood and toward the training grounds. He didn’t need to go to the Academy anymore, since now he was a full fledged ninja. It was only going to be his second time at the training grounds and so it was going to take some getting used to. But even so, he could feel the excitement welling up inside him. He was going to practice some jutsu, and he was going to get stronger! Soon, he would be a great ninja just like his dad!

Re: The Real Journey Begins [Solo]

Post by Kyoshi on Thu Feb 08, 2018 4:59 pm

The trip to training grounds took a fair bit of time, but it flew by thanks to the excitement of the young Sarutobi genin. Before too long Kyoshi found himself walking into the wooded area that surrounded one of the training fields. The trees in this area were especially tall and green, covered in the leaves that were indicative of the time of year. The vibrant green all around him seemed to catch his attention far more than it normally would. Whether things actually looked different here or Kyoshi was just hopped up on adrenaline from the excitement of the morning remained to be seen however. The training ground itself was simple enough, with a serious of training posts lined up on one side of the yard, and another group of them on the other side. The posts would be great for practicing speed and accuracy with his taijutsu, but that was not what he needed today. There was also a good-sized track that ran around the circumference of the field which Kyoshi would have used to train up his speed an endurance on any other day. But once again, today he had other plans. He needed to practice jutsu, and so that was what he would do.

Glancing about, Kyoshi could see a number of other shinobi in the field around him. Some were genin like him; at least he assumed so given how young they seemed and how simple their training seemed to be. Others were clearly chuunin, or maybe even jounin, all wearing their flak jackets that were symbolic of their elevated rank while they practiced their hand to hand combat alone or with a partner. It was good to see that Kyoshi would have to keep training even when he got promoted again; he loved to train, and spending all of his time on missions instead of bettering himself would be a drag if it came to that. Ignoring the rest of the ninja on the training field, Kyoshi made his way over to one area that was far less occupied. He would have to be careful with what he wanted to work on, so the less bystanders that could accidentally be harmed, the better. Once he had found a location that was open enough to practice what he had planned, Kyoshi took off his jacket and hung it on a nearby tree. After all, he wouldn’t want it to get singed.

Before he could take his father’s advice and work on different sealing techniques, he would have to master something far more basic, but that had a great deal of utility. He had seen the technique many times before, from his cousins, clan members, father, and even teachers at the academy. It was a jutsu that could by used by even genin that had an affinity for fire release techniques. The Great Fireball Technique. Kyoshi had memorized the hand seals months before he would ever be able to perform the technique, but he had been waiting for this very day. The issue for him was going to be kneading the chakra in his threat after the hand seals had been formed. Thinking back to the seals he had memorized, he slowly formed the hand seals without actually molding any chakra, practicing before he would actually try to use the jutsu. Snake, ram, monkey, boar, horse, tiger. Again. Snake, ram, monkey, boar, horse, tiger. He repeated the pattern several times as he stood in his own section of the field, going over the seals again and again to ensure that he would not mess them up in a tense situation. Once he was confident that he knew them, it was time to try the jutsu itself.

Turning in a direction where he could send his fireball into a small pond in the trining area, Kyoshi let out his breath slowly and closed his eyes, concentrating on the jutsu he wanted to use. It was now or never. Snake, ranm, monkey, boar, horse, tiger! After forming the least seal, he inhale and kneaded that air with chakra that he had built up in his throat, praying that it was or the correct nature. He the then let it out in a blast as hard as possible. The result was less than satisfying. There was definitely heat coming from his mouth, but the fire did not ignite completely, instead leaving Kyoshi blowing out a great deal of smoke and hot air, but no fireball. It was disappointing to be sure, but if he was honest with himself, he had not expected to master it in the first try. He did not let that discourage him too much though and began to try again and again as he stood near the water’s edge. He repeated the process almost a dozen times before he began to see an improvement. A small lick o flames emerged form his mouth and instead of letting them grow, the young genin was so surprised that he stopped the chakra from leaving his mouth! Cursing himself for his mistake, the young Sarutobi could not surpress the excitement that he was beginning to feel. He almost did it!

Recognizing that he had not been using nearly enough chakra to release such an attack, Kyoshi made sure to build up more for his next attempt. Again, he weaved through the series of hand seals, and again, he inhales and mixed the chakra into the air, but this time, something spectacular happed. Exhaling with all of the force he could muster, and with far more chakra at once than he had done before Kyoshi release a large ball of fire form his lips, sending it rocketing forward and over the lake faster than he had expected. Despite his surprise, he did not stop exhaling, seeing how much juice he could get out of it. When the flames finally dissipated, Kyoshi sat down on the ground, exhausted but elated by the jutsu all at the same time. He heard a couple of the nearby ninja that had been watching for part of the ordeal should out a congratulations and clap a little bit, embarrassing him and encouraging him all at once. It was the first jutsu since the academy techniques that he had been able to use, and that fact alone had him over the moon. He would have to practice more of course, but for now, he was counting this as a victory. The thought of making more and more jutsu had him wide eyed and ginning like a money as he sat at the water’s edge.

Just think of the possibilities!

Re: The Real Journey Begins [Solo]

Kyoshi spent the rest of that day in the training fields. He used the fireball jutsu that he had aught himself over and over, trying to ensure that he had actually mastered the hand seals and of course, the amount of chakra needed to release a devastating blast and not just a puff of smoke. Once he was proud of the progress that he had made, he turned to the other speciality that his father had mentioned: fuinjutsu. Seals and the sealing of items and chakra had always fascinated Kyoshi. He found it so convenient that one could lock away nearly any item into a simple scroll, but more than that he loved the idea of applying curse seals to his opponents. The idea of preventing those against him from using what they had practiced over and over again, just as he was practicing his fireballs repeatedly, meant that he could get a significant advantage in a fight. Removing a familiarity from an opponent could confuse and cripple them seriously, which seemed great to the newly promoted genin.

But before he could learn how to curse people, he needed to cover the basics of seals and sealing arts. For the better part of the day, Kyoshi dedicated his time to practicing the simple, generic sealing technique that he had learned in the Academy. It was an easy enough jutsu, but its applications were numerous. Once he had that technique done, he moved onto the next step: an unsealing jutsu. Kyoshi figured that cursed seals would not be safe to work with, especially with other shinobi from him village, if he had no way of effectively unsealing some techniques that he may apply. And so for the rest of the day, Kyoshi found himself developing a jutsu that could release certain seals. He practiced on the generic item sealing technique, just to ensure that he would not hurt anyone while learning. By the time the afternoon was coming to a close, and the sky was changing from a blue to a dull orange, Kyoshi had finally developed something he was sure would work, at least as well as he needed it to for the time being.

It had been an exhausting day, and as Kyoshi picked up his coat and put it back on he took a minute to reflect on everything that had gone on. First, he was promoted to genin, fulfilling a dream that he had for years before. Then, he fought his cousin, or at least he tried to before getting his butt kicked. Then he had gone home and gotten this sweet jacket from his dad, and finally he had mastered two different jutsu. All in all, it had been a pretty great day. He needed to keep working of course, especially if he planned on taking out Muto some day soon. But for now, the young Sarutobi was just happy that he was making progress. He had a long way to go, but someday he would become a great ninja that the whole Sarutobi clan would know and love. That was Kyoshi’s dream, and it was time to start making it a reality.
