Trait Guidelines

Each and every person in the world is unique, and beyond that, Some people are at a predisposition to certain things, like their body being naturally more frail, or better at chakra. These unique specialties, or inheritant flaws in a person are way we have the trait system, not only to allow for more mechanical variance, but as a fun way to add a bit more uniqueness to your character.

Now before we start handing out these gifts or curses, there is a few things you should know. First, there are three different types of traits. Positive Traits, Negative Traits, Passive Traits.

Types

Positive traits, are just as they sound they are things that benefit your character, whether this be things like your character being naturally more agile, or just better at bartering, these are things that give your character positive mechanical benefits within the site rules. However is it important to note that for every positive trait you have, you MUST take a negative trait in order to balance it out. Furthermore, you can only have a total of 3 positive benefits assigned to your character in addition to any traits supplied passively (such as from a bloodline). The traits supplied passively may or may not need to be matched by an additional negative trait.

Negative Traits are just what you would expect them to be. These are things that have a negative mechanical impact on your character, whether it be combat related or site related these should have actual negative impacts on your ability to preform certain tasks within mythos. A few examples of this could include: Increased Jutsu damage towards you, Increased WC for training Jutsu, Increased Ryo costs for items, ECT. You may take as many negatives as you wish.

Passive traits, are traits which do not give a mechanical benefit but are merely there to add to the flavor text and further make your character stand out. Examples of what this would be are: Your Sharingan being a bright pink instead of red, or every time you use chakra tattoos appear all over your skin. These are meant to be fun and add to the story, description, and uniqueness of your character so they should not in any form provide any sort of mechanical change what so ever.

Now that you know what types of Traits there are, it's time to detail how they are put to use. Which, for the most part is fairly simple. Upon character creation you will take already approved Traits and put them in your character application under the "traits" section. But, now you may be asking "Where do I find approved Traits?" And the answer is fairly simple!

There are two places to find Traits which have been approved. The first is right here in this Topic. At the very bottom of this post you will find a list of Pre-made Positive and Negative Traits that you can use however you see fit! Additionally, you can also apply for custom Traits in the Traits section of the Character Creation Section. You can apply for traits using the following template

Positive Traits



Muscular:
Name: Muscular
Type: Positive
Description: Someone with this trait is naturally strong, and has an easy time building muscle. As such they receive a passive buff of +50 to their Strength, and a 20% WC reduction to Strength training.

Description: Someone with this trait has a naturally larger chakra pool, and has an easy time building that pool. As such they receive a passive buff of +50 to their chakra, and a 20% WC reduction to chakra training.

Reflexes:

Description: Someone with this trait is naturally skilled in reacting to their surroundings, making them difficult to hit and somewhat difficult to keep up with. People with this trait receive a passive +30 to Speed and Perception.

Chakra Resistant:
Name: Chakra Resistant
Type: Positive
Description: A person with this trait is naturally resistant to chakra, and as such, any time they would take damage from chakra, that damage is reduced by 1.

Chakra Control Prodigy:
Name: Chakra Control Prodigy
Type: Positive
Description: Those who have this trait are gifted in the ways of chakra control. As such, anyone with this trait can make half seals (seals with one hand) anywhere the requirement of normal seals are listed.

Multi-Tasker:
Name: Multi-tasker
Type: Positive
Description: The person with this trait, is gifted in the ways of being able to do multiple things at a time. As such, not only do they find it easier to track multiple opponent, or utilize multiple jutsu, but any jutsu which requires standard concentration to active, instead is only a special concentration jutsu for the user. This special concentration means they cannot use any other special concentration jutsu.

Healing Attuned:
Name: Healing Attuned
Type: Positive
Description: Those with this trait are naturally aligned towards healing techniques for one reason or another, as such any time they would be healed, they are healed 1 point above what they would have been.

Jutsu Master:
Name: Jutsu Master
Type: Positive
Description: Someone with this trait is naturally skilled in the art of crafting jutsu. As such, upon character creation they receive double the standard jutsu (applies to Academy Ninja's rank up as well), and further more, they receive a 20% word count reduction in training jutsu.

Type: Positive
Description: This Trait often belongs to people who are naturally talented at a certain specialization. As such upon character creation, their chosen specialization (must be labeled in the Trait) starts at a rank above it's starting location. Furthermore, when training that specialization or jutsu that requires that specialization they receive a 10% reduction in WC.

Description: Someone with this trait easily falls into money for whatever reason. Because of this, upon character creation they receive 500 ryo, and furthermore they receive 20% more ryo from missions.

Description: Someone with this trait has excessively powerful chakra, and as such all damage techniques receive a +1 to their damage.

Defensive:

Description: As the title would state, the person with this trait is naturally defensive, and as such all of their jutsu receive a +1 to their defense stat.

Chakra Sniper:
Name: Chakra Sniper

Description: Someone with this trait naturally is better at distance with their jutsu. As such, all of their techniques may receive a +1 in range.

Description: Those with this trait are better at learning and applying a wider range of skills. Therefore, they are able to train one additional specialization to Skilled. Additionally, they have a 20% word count reduction on training any specializations.

Weak:

Type: Negative
Description: Someone with this trait is naturally Weak, and has a hard time building muscle. As such they receive a passive debuff of -50 to their Strength, and a +20% WC to Strength training.

For this reason upon character creation they receive half of the jutsu they were suppose too (If you would receive an odd number of jutsu in a certain category, one of them gets demoted to 1 rank lower.) Additionally, jutsu take 20% more WC to train.

Notes:

  • Passive buffs are ones which do not directly apply to stats (this means they don't show up on your profile, but also don't count against your total stats trained). However it is important to note that these buffs and debuffs cannot go above the cap or below base value respectively (cap being 1000, base value being 0, or in the case of chakra 10). Furthermore, because Passive traits are solely meant to enhance character development and story they aren't permanent and can be changed and swapped out at any given point. As long as a passive trait is approved, they can be added and removed in the thread of at least 5000 words. Furthermore this thread must contain a narrative as to why you are gaining or losing your passive trait. Once this is, the changes can be applied for via the Character Modding Requests.
