Work is Hard [Kyoshi/Mission]

Post by Tetsuji on Wed Mar 14, 2018 6:06 pm

OOC:

Mission name: Mail Delivery
Mission rank: D
Objective: Deliver mail
Location: Village Interior
Mission Description: There are three (3) letters that need to be delivered throughout the village. You are to deliver these letters without opening them as soon as possible. Opening any of the letters will result in the mission being a failure.
Mission Details: The letters can be delivered to anyone you decide is getting a message that day. If you open a letter, the recipient will know and you will fail the mission.

Mission name: Paint the Administration Building
Mission rank: D
Objective: Touch up the painting on the interior of the administration building
Location: Village Administration Building
Mission Description: The paint on the interior walls of the Administration Building has begun to chip away. Repaint the area that is assigned to you, and make sure you don’t spill any paint where it doesn’t belong!
Mission Details: You can choose what area in the building needs to be painted, whether it be an office, a hallway, or some other room. The only place that is off limits is the Kage’s office. Don’t spill any paint or leave graffiti or you will fail.

Missions are essential to the village! They bring in money and notoriety for the ninja within and for every completed mission, our reputation increases and we gain more missions to bring in more money.

So was the idea behind it and that was all well and good for where it actually mattered and had any impact on anything at all. But for Tetsuji, the missions they had lined up today seemed more like... chore-work above anything at all. The first stop on his ever-so action packed agenda would be to stop near the post-office and collect the mail for their delivery as well as the person he'd be working with. A not-so anonymous combination that he missed when being told his responsibilities for the day.

All this beat sitting and waiting for his squad to get put together finally though, and with nothing but training to do on top of it, this certainly beat sitting at home and studying or shadowing his father in more awkward and unnecessary tasks around the village. And even further beyond that is that he was getting paid for these missions! It was almost as if this was the far superior choice of task for the day. Though, even with the obvious decision, as he pulled his sandals over his feet while sat at the door of his home, he couldn't help but feel that sense of apathy take him over. The odd strangulation that he was just going through the motions and the lack of pride towards his own work. As he reached around to the pouch tied at his waist to roughly feel out the contents and double check that his gear was all in order, words rang out from his father.

"Careful about doing these missions, being an Uchiha you're always kept down a peg. You don't get anything for free around here and the village will hold you down if you let them."

He shook his head a bit as his arm reached out and pressed the wooden door open, letting rays of light blast through the dimly lit entrance as he stepped forward and emerged into the empty street from his home. His black pants and black shirt were typical with black sandals as always. He kept two small pouches at his right hip for quick access to kunai and a larger pouch on his waist towards his right side as well containing the rest of his tools. His hair flowed a bit as he locked the door and a gust of wind pressed around him and filled the quiet air with a brief surge of noise.

Turning on the heel of his foot, he burst off down the street and quickly towards his rendezvous point at the main gate of the village to meet with his teammate and collect the letters that they needed to deliver first off.

Kyoshi certainly wished that the mission he had lined up for the day was more like the first mission he ever took. Everything about that mission had been great. First, he had gotten to leave the village and travel to a place in the Land of Fire he never would have seen otherwise. Next, he got to do it with his friend and rival, Akame Senju. They had been friends ever since they had met during their academy training and getting to go on a mission with him that was so important was a great way to start his official career as a ninja. But lastly, it had been a C-Rank mission. That rank meant danger. That rank meant excitement. That rank meant getting to do work that actually felt meaningful in some way and coming out on the other side of it with a bit of a reputation. It had been a really, really good mission. But today’s…well today’s was less that exciting.

His mission that had been assigned to him today was one that was certainly important, but he felt like it would be better to let academy students do it for practice rather than have actual genin take care of it. It seems so trivial and simple for him; a ninja capable of spewing fireballs form his mouth and creating walls of earth using his chakra. But today he would not get to do any of that. Today h was going to be delivering the mail. He sighed as he thought about it once again while eating an apple in his kitchen. His mother and father were already out for the day and so he was going to be the last to leave his house. Tossing out the apple core, he stepped into the front hallway of his house and slipped on his black sandals followed shortly by donning his black jacket that he never left the house without. The symbol of his clan on the back of it was something he was happy to show off to any passing by him. He wanted people to know who he was. After all, he was going to be Hokage someday.

Finally ready for the incredibly boring day ahead, Kyoshi stepped out of the house and shut the door behind him. The walk to the meeting place, the village gate, was not very far for the young Sarutobi since the area where most of his clan lived was situated near the entrance to the village. Looking up at the sun above, Kyoshi took a moment to appreciate the fact that at least the day would not be a complete waste. He loved being able to spend days in the sun, so it might feel more like a vacation than a mission if he thought about it hard enough. Not only that, but he had been told that he would be working with a partner today, though when he had received the mission they did not have the name of the other shinobi available for him. It was going to be a surprise, and hopefully a pleasant one.

When he finally arrived at the gate, he was informed that his partner had not yet arrived. It was not a big deal though, considering that they would have all day to do something that would certainly take no time. Taking the carrier satchel from the chuunin in charge of the mail coming into the village, Kyoshi stepped back out into the sun and leaned up against the wall, waiting for his partner to show up so that they could get started on the delivery of these letters. There were three that needed to be distributed, and even though Kyoshi was sure he could do it on his own, it was policy that he work in at least a partnership for these missions. Looking up form the bag, Kyoshi scanned the crowd around the gates of Konohagakure no Sato in search of a genin who might be on their way to join him.

His run towards the gate was less than adventurous. Every step he took was nothing more than just labor for the sake of being a little bit quicker to his target than it was for anything else. It wasn't training. It wasn't necessary. His missions were almost leisurely in how they'd been assigned and he, well, himself and whoever he was partnered with would have almost the entire day to complete the tasks set out before them. Still, with the singular thought that others were dependent upon him and his timely and efficient arrival, he would be pressing his legs against the ground with minimal strain as he dashed around from walls to rooftops and empty roadways en route to the village gate.

His steps were rigid as he went about, his pants and shirt flapped against his body and pressed against the front of his body while falling slack from behind. It was almost like a warm up for his day. A short run through the village to get the blood pumping and awaken himself to the reality of the world. And yet, he seemed strangely awake anyways. In his house, his eyes could barely stay open but as he passed through the market district he seemed fully aware and conscious of his surroundings as he thought through things.

The scent of early morning bread baked for the lunch hour struck his nose as he passed over the awning of a bakery. The scent rose through his nostrils like the caffeine of a tea or coffee might awaken him and the sudden craving of break struck him while his breakfast was too light. There was no change in that, if he'd had the day to himself, he might have had the whim to stop or find his way back there but he had a task to tend to. Maybe he could... no! His mind yelled back in defiance as he tried to will himself from mentally wandering away. He had several missions in the form of chores to take care of. It was his responsibility to distinguish himself and carry the pride of the Uchiha.

Just as his father said, the words still ringing through him. He had to do better and had to be better. He had to show that it was truly the Uchiha who would lead the village on, even if he wasn't the best, he would strive for it with vigor and passion. Still, as the words rang in Tetsuji's mind he couldn't help but continue to wander and drift off into that tangent. So much so that when he finally snapped back out of his unconscious driving through the village, he was a few blocks from the main gate and saw a familiar red haired boys face outside with a satchel attached to his arm.

Tetsuji would quickly close the gap to the boy but slow his approach from steady dash through the village to a slow jog and finally walking the last few steps up to him before raising an arm and waving while letting a simple, "Hey," fall calmly into the air as he calmed his breath rapidly upon stopping. With a continued sight of the satchel and his wave extending to the chuunin behind him, not sure if he needed to say anything and check in or if they could just continue on with their mission from there, he would let a simple nod and wave, continuing in one motion from his greeting to Kyoshi, suffice until the chuunin would say anything else if anything at all.

Almost without anymore hesitation from his connected greetings, Tetsuji would focus back on Kyoshi, "Where do we have to go for today?" he would end there as he awaited to be briefed by Kyoshi for their first agenda for the day. He was almost curious if they would have a full squad joining them but for the missions they were selected on, two people was overkill in some tasks. A prime example of that overkill would be the first task of the day, delivering mail. It made him question if they really needed two people to deliver a few things around the village but he wouldn't question it. It was a mission that he would be paid for and it would go on his record. He needed to be a team player first before questioning the system. He needed to be a team player for his own sake, his reputation. And, the reputation of his clan.

Re: Work is Hard [Kyoshi/Mission]

Post by Kyoshi on Thu Mar 22, 2018 11:48 am

As soon as he saw the other newly promoted genin rounding the bend and turning toward the gate, Kyoshi knew exactly who his partner would be. It was none other than Tetsuji Uchiha, his former classmate and a…friend? Acquaintance was probably a more appropriate way to describe the two boys’ relationship. They had been in the same class, though they never really talked much. The closest the two had ever become was during a spar that they had to do in class one day. It had been a tough fight, and Tetsuji had emerged victorious despite Kyoshi trying his best. Kyoshi still remembered the words that the young Uchiha had said to him after the fight. If he was honest, Kyoshi figured he would probably never forget them. “It wasn't your training that lacked, it was your instincts..." He had been right of course. Kyoshi had never really payed much attention in class and so honing his basic instincts through theory had suffered. After that day Kyoshi had applied himself more aggressively in class, asking questions when he did not understand and doing his best to become a better shinobi. In truth, Kyoshi probably owed his success to Tetsuji in part, though he would never admit as much.

His greeting was short and to the point, much like the Uchiha had always presented himself. Kyoshi offered a wave back to him and responded in kind before stepping up and opening up the satchel that was over his shoulder. Reaching inside, he pulled out three small scrolls that were sealed with the name of the location that they needed to be delivered to on them. There was also a small scroll that was unsealed, containing extra information. “It looks like there’s only one bag, so I’ll hold onto it unless you really want to. We’ve got three letters to deliver in total. The first is to be delivered to the Nara clan compound. It says that there should be someone waiting at the compound entrance so hand the message off to. The second is supposed to go to the Academy. They have a mailbox that we can just drop it at. And then the last one is for the administration building. From what I understand, they are expecting this message and when we hand it in we will be given out second mission for the day.” He Took the satchel off of his shoulders and offered the bag to Tetsuji in case he wasted to go over anything before they headed out.

Kyoshi would wait for a moment to see if his companion had anything else to add or any questions for the chuunin that had handed off the messages, but once they were finally ready, the young Sarutobi would turn and begin heading in the direction of the Nara compound, walking through the streets as he looked back to his partner. It seemed like such a waste, when he really thought about it. Tetsuji and himself had been two of the most capable students in the academy together. The were some of the strongest, fastest, and smartest kids that had come through the graduation test. But here they were, delivering mail throughout the village, in a pair no less. This could have easily been done by either one of them alone, but instead Konoha was wasting resources on something so simple. It just seemed so strange to Kyoshi. He could not understand why the Hokage thought this was the way the missions should be handed out. But it wasn’t his call. And so, here he was with a talented Uchiha, wandering the streets and delivering mail.

He guessed that Tetsuji felt much the same, especially considering that Kyoshi was not sure that Tetsuji even liked him. In an attempt to test the waters, Kyoshi addressed his companion. “It seems weird to me that both of us were put on this job. Delivering mail isn’t that hard. Why do you think they put two of us on the job? Especially the two of us, together.”

Re: Work is Hard [Kyoshi/Mission]

After the returned greeting, Tetsuji watched calmly and carefully as Kyoshi pulled the bag in front of him and pulled the three scrolls out to show him their haul for the day. Kyoshi moved on to begin to describe their targeted locations and where each of the scrolls belonged. Tetsuji's ears listened as his eyes wandered from the bag back to Kyoshi's person as he detailed out where they needed to go: The Nara compound, the academy building, and finally the administration building. Outside the Nara clan compound, the path he was imagining in his head was simple and straightforward, it wasn't far towards the Nara and their forest. From there they could hit the Academy and the administration building with ease.

After Kyoshi pulled the bag off his shoulder and held it towards Tetsuji to take, he blinked as he hurriedly declined the offer. Raising his hand up to him to block it's path while speaking up, "That's alright, I'll let you keep the bag this time..." he ended with an almost smirk on his face. Wanting to almost save himself the trouble of it and honestly, it would be better to let the more eccentric and well... cheerful of the two act as the carrier.

After his motion to decline holding the bag was known, Tetsuji would turn away and look into the village as he began to mentally map out the way around the village. With a twist of his head he would speak up, "I think the Nara clan would be easiest to get out of the way first, even if it is a bit towards the edge of the village..." he would wait for his companion's answer before taking his first few steps forward and beginning their travel towards the clan compound. It didn't matter whether Kyoshi or himself led the way but as he continued on he knew that he had to press things forward and as their pace quickened, Kyoshi would chime in and break the silence in between them with conversation.

His question was one of his own concern, calling their task weird he posed his question and reasoning behind it all at once. It struck Tetsuji at this moment that he was more... open? Than he was use to people being. Within his own clan, everyone was so laconic that underlying meaning was implied or assumed. Honor, tradition, and things of that nature were all at the surface. Speaking with respect was necessary and anything extra was only a waste to so many of the older and traditional members of his clan. Maybe it was just because the both of them were young but speaking to someone who was so open about his own thinking was a weird endeavor. Tetsuji quickly put it out of his mind though, he briefly mulled over the question but the answer was obvious.

Part of him almost wanted to make some inner-part of himself known, letting Kyoshi know that it was probably simply because he was an Uchiha, from a group that the village had a hard time trusting. That was the answer from his own home and clan, the part of him that learned it from his father and the other old men in power within his clan. Still, the other part of him was that of the academy, and their answer was more reasonable and easier to explain. Kyoshi probably wouldn't understand the inner clan workings that would lead to it and write him off as paranoid. Besides all of that, there was no reason to get into those particulars on their journey here.

Tetsuji breathed out and blinked into a smirk near chuckle, almost to taunt Kyoshi a little bit as he answered out, "The answer's obvious don't you think?" Tetsuji would pause a second to let him think about but he would continue on quickly, "It's always been about teamwork. Also, we're of two really important clans, aren't we? It would make sense that they would try to bring us all together. Just like the Hokage wishes..." the flairs of sarcasm would build off his ending statements as he finished his contest. There wasn't much else to it in Tetsuji's mind but that didn't mean Kyoshi was wrong in the slightest. This was absolutely a job that either one of them could do on their own. Hell, it didn't even take a ninja to handle it, any ordinary citizen could do this on their own.

Re: Work is Hard [Kyoshi/Mission]

The Uchiha allowed him to hold onto the delivery bag for this mission, which was fine to Kyoshi. He didn’t mind either way. After all, he just wanted to get the mission over with if he was honest. There was no use in arguing over something so small. So, accepting Tetsuji’s proposal to head toward the Nara compound first, the duo se toff on their way to complete the mission. As Kyoshi broke the silence and the pair increased their pace, Kyoshi could not help but notice his partner’s hesitation to answer his question. Realizing that he may have bene wrong in assuming that Tetsuji agreed with him, Kyoshi felt like kicking himself. He was certain that the Uchiha already had a fairly low opinion of him after their spar the in academy, and now he had said something that would probably sound stupid to him. Unfortunately, the tension that Kyoshi felt only built further as Tetsuji let out a quiet chuckle and finally replied.

"The answer's obvious don't you think?" Tetsuji paused a second to most likely let Kyoshi stew over his ignorance, but he continued on quickly, "It's always been about teamwork. Also, we're of two really important clans, aren't we? It would make sense that they would try to bring us all together. Just like the Hokage wishes..." Kyoshi was taken aback by the answer. He had expected some kind of snarky response that would have left him feeling inferior in some way. Just like after the spar. But once again, Tetsuji was right. It seemed like the people around him that he expected the worst out of were always right. It was both a blessing and a curse, considering that it meant he could learn from these other people, while also being made out to be the idiot of their graduating class. He had the technical skills, sure; but he could not compete with the insight that his other classmates were showing. Even Aka, the hot-headed kid that did nothing but explode at people in anger, had floored him on multiple occasions with his intuition.

It was frustrating to feel so stupid again. But on top of that he could sense the sarcasm in the Uchiha’s voice. Kyoshi as not sure whether it was disrespect towards him, or towards to Hokage, or towards the ideals that both of them subscribed to. Either way, it caused a little bit of contempt to build within him. But he had to move on quickly so that it wouldn’t show to his fellow shinobi. Giving a curt nod, Kyoshi finally found the words to reply. “You’re probably right. I mean it only makes sense. With the Will of Fire being such a prominent idea that our Hokage believes in, then ties between out clans would only be beneficial in his eyes. Mine as well to be honest.” He paused for a moment as the two genin rounded a corner to head down a street to ward the Nara clan compound. “I agree with Lord Hokage in that regard. It might just be how I was raised, but I see the truth in the idea of strength in numbers. But that only works if you trust all of the number.”

He let out a short chuckle and turned to face his friend as the compound came into view. “The idea that people that fought for generations could be friends may seem ridiculous, but if you look at the village around us, I would say it worked out alright. What about you? Do you believe in what the Hokage and Madera Uchiha wanted when they made this village?” Reaching into the bag that was slung over his shoulder, Kyoshi pulled out the first letter to be delivered and offered it to his partner as they closed on the compound, waiting for an answer but prepared to be ignored at the same time.

Re: Work is Hard [Kyoshi/Mission]

He agreed with the Hokage... kinda typical. Internally the grimace ran through Tetsuji's entire body but he didn't let it show at all. It was an answer he'd heard too many times and from too many to people to be surprised or lose his cool about it. In the first pause of Kyoshi's answer as he made his point about trust, almost as if he were trying to lecture Tetsuji about too, a simple hum would come from Tetsuji's lips along with a slight nod to acknowledge it. Wanting to shift the conversation away quickly from trust. Knowing, that someone not of his clan wouldn't be able to trust someone like him and especially once he saw those eyes of his in action.

The question turned to him but it wasn't the one he expected to come from one of the other noble clans. It was... whether he believe in their vision? What they came together and founded the village on. A brief flash as his eyes rolled and he began to think about what came around before him and what was around him? Words of his father and a few other clansmen flashed around in his mind and created a collage of mix messages and emotions. As they approached the compound and Kyoshi began to pull the letter out and offer to Tetsuji, he would return a waved hand and nod, "You can turn this one in. I'll do the next ones..." he paused where they stood just outside the clan compound and looked around.

The Nara clan, one like his and very prominent with their own powers and reputation. It was like the Uchiha but in a much different way. There was no animosity between this clan and the village like there was with his own. Would the village send genin to the gates of the Uchiha clan compound to deliver mail? No. They'd have someone from the clan pick it up and deliver it back themselves. The deeper question was whether or not anyone from the village would feel comfortable walking up to the compound itself to deliver that mail. Tetsuji took a blank step around the front of the Nara clan compound as he would let Kyoshi enter in and drop it off himself, thinking on the mirrored image of the Sarutobi boy walking into his clans compound so non-chalantly as they had.

He almost scoffed for a moment as he continued to run through the scenario in his mind and build on answering the question.

Once Kyoshi was done, Tetsuji would turn back to him and jump forward to start running towards their next target. After a few steps and once they were in pace together, Tetsuji would speak up almost without warning. "I don't know if I believe in it. They had a good reason for wanting the village for sure, but..." a slight pause as Tetsuji imagined the words of others who said Madara only joined on his death bed after being beaten by Hashirama. Making a move to save himself and his clan by sacrificing his pride. The pause had grown for a second, almost as if Tetsuji was unsure of what to say next so he quickly gathered his thoughts and pushed it to the side, "Well, anything for peace at any level is good enough, right?"

He would almost shrug but reach out his right hand towards Kyoshi and motion to the bag, offering to take it and the remaining letters before they got to their next destination. A small trade off and small gesture that he could trust Tetsuji, at least with this much, as well as to show he wasn't totally blowing this mission off.

Re: Work is Hard [Kyoshi/Mission]

Post by Kyoshi on Sun May 06, 2018 2:17 pm

Tetsuji’s wordless responses to his questions were not exactly the way he hoped to bond with the young Uchiha. But Kyoshi did not have much choice in the matter. All he could do was go along with it until he found something that interested his partner in the slightest. Refusing to take the letter, Kyoshi shrugged and stepped around the Uchiha and stepped into the compound. Glancing about, he did not see anyone that was there to pick up the mail right away, so he leaned up against the wall, confused as to why Tetsuji hadn’t stepped in with him. He always found it so strange that the Uchiha boy seemed to act so distant and reserved in front of him. In fact, Tetsuji seemed to be distant from just about everybody. Maybe it was the fact that most of the older shinobi he knew were not too fond of the Uchiha. Kyoshi could understand why. After all, the Uchiha and the Senju, alongside his own clan used to be at odds for generations. But that time was over now, and Kyoshi could not remember a time when the Uchiha and the rest of Konoha did not live in peace. Maybe people just needed to get over themselves.

It did not take long for someone to show up; a messenger that worked for one of the clan elders. With a smile and a wave, Kyoshi handed off the first letter and turned around, leaving the compound and joining his fellow genin. As soon as he exited the gate, Tetsuji was on the run headed toward their next target. Not wanting to waste time either, Kyoshi caught up to him and matched his face as he finally replied to his question from earlier. The pause of uncertainty was unsettling to the young Sarutobi. He could not understand why Tetsuji would be against the peace that was brought about by the joining of all of the different clans into one strong village. Why would continued fighting be any better? It just didn’t make any sense. The silence that hung between them for far too long needed to desperately be broken. Thankfully the Uchiha did just that with some dismissive comment about any measure of peace being worth any price that needed to be paid. It was not exactly the response he hoped for, but he did not completely disagree.

As he handed the bag over to his partner he figured he could try and get in one more response before moving on to something else. “I mean, I guess. I disagree a little bit, since the peace has to be worth the sacrifice. I mean if one clan killed everyone else, then there would certainly be peace. But I don’t think that would be worth it.” He paused for a moment to let that sink in, hoping that his logic would cause Tetsuji to think even just a little but about the benefits of the village as a whole. Regardless, Kyoshi felt that the conversation had run its course, so he decided to change the subject as the pair approached their second destination: the Academy. It had been some time since he had been back there, and he was not really looking forward to seeing his teachers and having to tell them that his job was delivering mail. But it was what had to be done, so he pushed on.

“So Tetsuji,” the young Sarutobi said with a smile as they drew closer and closer to the Academy building. “Have you been training up since we graduated from the academy? I’ve been focusing mostly on my body and less on justu, but I think I’m falling behind. I know some of our classmates have already mastered a ton of different jutsu and I only have a few in my arsenal. What about you?”
