Current State of Data for Megijima Clan Expedition

Dear Dr. Sakurai,

It feels so good to be back home after our journey. Between the constant sailing, hot desert days, frigid desert nights, and the over “hospitality” of our host, I’m glad we managed to learn so much regarding this enigma. Despite this, however, I am both regretful and excited to say the information we did uncover have only scratched the surface of this clan’s mysterious origins. Nevertheless, we are required to update all official clan records with the information we do have. Revisions and corrections can be done once we’ve found more. That aside, let me rundown all the details we’ve managed to work out over in Iwagakure (thank you for sending over your findings by the way, they’ve been a great help with correlating our individual findings.

Discovered nearly a century ago by complete accident by a group of sailors, the Megijima are considered a rather interesting subject within anthropology and archeology. The clan is considered indigenous to the island of the same name that lies some fifty odd miles off the coast of the Kaze no Kuni. Before this, the clan was largely known through fables spread during wartime, various villages supposedly using sharp-teeth, arm-bladed demons for large-scale battles and raids. Of course, at the time, these were written off as false, created from the horror and trauma of warfare from hapless shinobi who were broken both in mind and spirit. This inevitably proved false as well upon the discovery of the island. The Megijima were and are indeed real and are as awful and ferocious as the tales say. The pure-bloods, called Onizuka (鬼塚 – Ogre Mound) by the clan itself, are quite beastly. They sport mouths filled with long, sharp teeth and almost always lack lips. Their eyes range from fiery reds to violent yellows, the eye itself being akin to that of a feline with how the pupils regularly dilate. The most shocking feature of all, however, would be their arms. All Onizuka possess boney arm-blades that are impeded into their forearms, which can be extended at will up to four feet at max. Autopsies reveal these blades are very much apart of their natural anatomy, with the forearm having specialized joints which allow the Onizuka to eject and retract the blade at will. This, in-turn, means the pureblooded Megijima is always armed with a weapon which further increases the clan’s deadliness.

These are not the only Megijima, however, as there is a smaller branch known as the Fujioka (藤岡 – Wisteria Hill) that are hybrids of the clan from the rare occasions of inter-clan relations. These hybrids maintain some of the visage of the Onizuka, such as the eyes and teeth, yet almost look like a normal human. Many have, if not all, Fujioka have lips, lack the characteristic arm-blades, and are generally much more capable of hiding their heritage. Within the clan, the Fujioka are considered of higher standing than the Onizuka, strangely enough, with some Onizuka acting being subservient to some higher-standing Fujioka. This seems to be tied to the Megijima’s own religion, or at least, what is left of it. This is because their native island, when first discovered, was giving its name for the sheer number of wooden statues of hybrid women, carved out from dead trees or even in living ones. Though many statues depict only these nameless women, some also sport a male Onizuka kneeling in-front of the woman while her hand gently pets his head or shoulder. Questioning the clan has brought up little in the way of history, as it seems even they have forgotten most of the details which implies a certain antiquity to the Megijima’s existence. From what is known, the woman is named Kata and is worshipped as their protector. There is no translation of Kata into our language since, from what has been found, the Megijima formerly had their own language that has now been lost. According to the oldest of the clan and any surviving relics, the Megijima are actually from some far-off chain of islands and traveled extensively about for both more space to live and for resources. Apparently, the islands they formerly inhabited no longer exist, as something called the “Razada”, or Storm as when properly translated, occurred and sank the islands. It is believed that Kata, if indeed real, lead the Megijima to their current island. Because of this, the Megijima’s cultural name is Tarkata, tar meaning “of”, translating to “of Kata”. Whether she was already considered a deity before the supposed cataclysm or was deified later for leading the last of the Megijima is unknown. Nonetheless this also influences the clan’s structure as well, for it is mostly women who lead the clan as well as individual family groups.

There are some male leaders as well, mostly older members who have grown wise with age or those who have traveled about the land and learned greatly of the outside world, but aside from these sparse few it is predominantly woman led. The clan matriarch, typically an older female (there have been rare occasions of male Horkata) who has proven herself both physically and mentally, is referred to as the Horkata or “with Kata”. The individual clan leaders below her, primarily elders, are the Okradan. There is no direct translation sadly but is considered synonymous with “wise man/woman”. It should be stated that, naturally, Fuijoka that are Okradans have more sway and influence than an Onizuka, but all are below the Horkata, regardless of whether she maybe a half-breed or pureblood. Those who do not abide by the word of the Okradans or their religion is trialed by combat (the ritual itself being called the Nakatak Raktar). If the (typically male) Megijima loses, he is forced to go through religious remediation or face being disowned and expelled from the clan. Those who win are allowed to stay and keep their views but are generally shunned and looked down upon by others. This is different if one disobeys the Horkata, of course. She can choose what punishment, if any, there will be and choose just how severe the disobedience is.

It should be stated that, despite the apparent veneration of half-breeds, the Megijima frown upon the idea of an Onizuka mating outside of the clan. Those who do are typically shunned unless they bring their child into the clan with them. Otherwise, the right to mate outside of the clan belong solely to the Fujioka and the Horkata, Onizuka must remain pure.

Despite all of this, the Megijima (or Tarkata as they refer to themselves when with their own kind), are completely human. Blood samples, bone pieces, teeth, and the like were taken and all comeback positive. They are homo sapiens and yet their kekkei genkai is so extreme is that it raises new questions about the origins about not only theirs, but other clans as well. Just how much can change and the clan can still be considered the same species as us? Even more dumbfounding is the fact that pureblooded Megijima are able to procreate so easily with other with little to no defects. Testing is going underway with their genes to find out why, but I digress. The Megijima, after a century of being formally discovered, have integrated into the desert life of the Kaze no Kuni. Though preferring to camp out on the outskirts of cities and villages rather than be in them to avoid the stares and frightened looks of the laymen, are official members of Sunagakure. They are considered citizens and their clan compound resides on their native island still, where they are allowed to govern themselves should they obey the laws placed by Sunagakure. Hopefully soon we can find out more about these amazing clansmen but, until then, let us just make public what we have found so that any animosity and fear with the public can subside, even if slowly.

Best Regards
Prof. Takeda Toyotomi

Requirements:
-Must specify which branch you are in your application.

-All Onizuka branch Megijima must use Onizuka as their official surname to distinguish themselves. Fujioka can use any surname they please.

-All Onizuka must start with Bukijutsu (Bladed Weaponry) along with any other specializations they want if they can.

Description: The Megijima, having often been mistaken as demons in the olden times because of their unique physiology, are a clan of very beastly humanoids who originally found their place as soldiers and raiders before resigning themselves to the world of shinobi. Though being rarely seen outside of the Land of Wind and even still being uncommon due to their dislike of cities, they are easily remembered for their features. Not all Megijima are the same, however, for they come in two varieties: the hybrid Fujioka and the pure-blooded Onizuka. Depending on what branch they are from, they must take one of the two traits listed below.

Onizuka:

Megijima 220px-BarakaMK9render

Name: Tarkatan Purebred
Type: Passive
Description: Those of the Onizuka are blessed (or cursed depending how you look at it) thanks to their pure-blooded heritage. All Onizuka share certain characteristics. All tend to have elfish ears, lack lips, sharp teeth that reach up to two inches, and arm-blades (officially called Torkata) which can extend up to four feet the forearm thanks to having specialized joints that allow for ejection and retraction. The teeth and blades of an Onizuka deal weapon damage equal to that of the shinobi's rank, so a D-Rank individual will have teeth that can pierce up to half an inch and blades that can cause one inch cuts.

The arm-blades initially have a length of two feet from the forearm, which increases by one foot with rank up, up to a total of four feet from the forearm (E-Ranks don't grow). The eject and retract speed of the blades is determined by the shinobi's Agility stat as these are considered part of their body.

Fujioka:

Megijima PVyz82g
A photo comparison between a Fujioka female (left) and an Onizuka female (right).

Name: Half-breed Highness
Type: Passive
Description: The Fujioka, unlike their more monstrous counterparts, seemingly lack most of the physical extremes due to the mixing of non-Megijima blood. Because of that, the Fujioka appear much more similar to normal people, albeit, despite a few alarming features. Shared with the Onizuka are the monstrous eyes and sharp (albeit more degenerated) teeth. No Fujioka have arm-blades. Their teeth, a mixture of normal human and Onizuka, can be as long as one and a half inches and do weapon damage equivalent to one less that of the shinobi's rank. Thus, a D-Rank individual's teeth will pierce up to one eighth of an inch.

Despite seemingly being weaker than an Onizuka due to the loss of the arm-blades, the bodies of the Fujioka are still somewhat configured to harbor them. Though not enough to actually have them, be it through transplants or naturally, this makes the Fuijiokas' muscles stronger without much of a size increase. This grants them 1 extra point in their Agility stat from the get-go. Another advantage is the fact they have lips and some, depending on which genes are stronger, may even have cheeks (wow)!

Drawbacks:
Onizuka
-All natural arm-blades can be broken and are durable in-regards to the user's Constitution stat, being considered the base value of their current rank in it. So while their in-general Constitution maybe A-4, their blades are A-0. Should the blades be broken or, Heavens forbid, ripped out, there are several routes the user can take:

  • Grow new blades in a thread. The base wordcount for growing new blades is 1,000 at E-Rank and 2,000 at D-Rank, with 500 being added to each rank afterward.

  • Have them surgically reattached via an NPC medic or another player. Irregardless, the procedure must be 500 words at E-Rank and 1,000 words at D-Rank, with 500 being added to each rank afterward. If done with an NPC, the user must pay 2,000 for the operation. Costs with another player, if any, are discussed between the user and them.

  • Buy artificial arm-blades and have them transplanted on. They must be apped for like any other weapon, paid for, and must be attached to the sockets.  The word-length and cost for the operation is the same as above. This option allows users to potentially have more durable and sharper arm-blades for their rank, but as these are items they do not rank up with the user and must be surgically removed (same as above) should they want to attach newer artificial blades or wish to grow their natural ones back. It should be noted that having artificial arm-blades are generally looked down upon in the clan when not in times of war.

-The Onizuka are, when compared to members of other clans, relatively new when it comes to jutsu and the molding of due to their more physical approach to problems and their generally reclusive behavior. Because of this, all Onizuka must take Jutsu Inept and Chakra Inefficient which cannot be balanced.

Fujioka
-Fujioka, despite having enhanced speed thanks to the left over joints of their Megijima heritage, aren't exactly used to them. They tire more quickly, lacking the stamina that typically goes with stronger muscles. Because of this, they must take Fatigued and cannot balance it.

-Perhaps stemming from how their Onizuka compatriots lack any initial finesse in anything that doesn't involve their own physical being, the Fujioka are very much specialists to their crafts, preferring to be a true master at a few skills than be just good. Because of this, they must take Specialist and cannot balance it.

So, this all looks mostly fine but I want to address one part, why the lock to Suna? (We're trying to keep things as open as possible) but it seems written into the clan that they're all not as accepted as others so what stops them from wandering out to other locations or villages, countries, etc... Really, we just need a very good reason for something to be considered locked to only one village

Oh. I was just thinking since their clan compound is of the coast of the kaze no kuni and since many tend to not leave, but removing the Suna requirement actually works a lot better since I do see these peeps as a bit of everywhere. In their history they are officially considered a clan of sunagakure but I'd imagine there are various individuals disgruntled with the ways of the clan.
